Caroline ThomasMMI Agency welcomes Caroline Thomas, our newest creative director. To learn more about our new teammate, we sat down and asked her a few questions. Check out her responses below.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I was born and raised in Kansas, but moved to Houston after graduating from K-State. For the past 2.5 years, I was back in Kansas City working for an awesome branding agency, but my heart was still in Texas (yes, this means I was in KC when not only the Chiefs beat my Texans, but the Royals also beat the Astros). It was definitely time to come back “home,” though.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love spending time with my two little ones and my husband. I love the Texans and even had season tickets before we moved back to Kansas. Anyone know of some for sale? I also love to eat and am so happy to be back in the land of delicious food diversity.

What drew you to MMI Agency?

People. Culture. Purpose. I interviewed with MMI during my first Houston stint and remember it being a place of talented, genuine people, immense opportunity, and solutions with a purpose.

What inspired you to go into Marketing and Communications?

Realizing I was much better with a sketchbook and a computer than a scalpel and a surgeon’s mask. In high school, I took an art class and realized my true passion was design, despite always wanting to be a surgeon. After doing some research, I found out I could actually make a living being creative (and not just be a starving artist).

What in marketing are you most excited to see evolve over the next two years?

Live-streaming apps, like Periscope, that can help brands reach more consumers by actually engaging them with things like live Q&A and behind-the-scenes interviews/sneak peeks.

What’s currently your favorite brand activation or campaign out in the market?

It’s hard picking favorites (for anything)…I love brands that are choosing to tackle social issues and market to today’s modern families. To name a few, Cheerios, Tylenol, Wells Fargo and Campbell’s have all done a tremendous job of this. Also, the branding designer in me loves Southwest Airlines’s campaigns for creating clever messaging all while maintaining the brand. “Transfarency” is smart and relatable to so many.

Welcome to the team, Caroline!
